Not sure why you take Doctor Dalrymple seriously on this issue.  He is a psychiatrist.  No profession has done more to remove the issue of personal responsibility from the legal system than psychiatry.  You may want to research his professional history.  He was an NHS psychiatrist, working in a state hospital. Prison psychiatry was a small part of his job. Crime and the avoidance of punishment have been major concerns for psychiatry since its inception.

Yes, you’re right: there are people in the world who are just plain evil.  Why should the state pay for pseudo-doctors like Dalrymple to treat them for illnesses they don’t even believe in?

Thomas Szasz believes that the term ‘right wing psychiatrist’ is an oxymoron. I happen to agree with him.

Just because somebody tells you they are ‘right wing’ doesn’t mean they really are.  Just like those folks from Noraid who stopped by and told you they represented a charity weren’t always being entirely honest.

A psychiatrist who doesn’t believe in psychiatry is like a witch finder general who doesn’t believe in witches and only does what he does because he gets some kind of twisted pleasure from watching people burn at the stake.

Just how many members of the underclass did the tedious, whining Doctor Dalrymple have forcibly medicated during the course of his ‘career’ as an NHS psychiatrist?

Well, thank the Lord for that.  At least they’re not pretending to be doctors.

Here are a few things psychologists cannot do:

1. They cannot forcibly medicate you:

“I had my revenge however, I ordered her to be held down and injected in the buttock”

2.  They cannot force treatment upon you against your will unless they have the permission of a psychiatrist.

3. They cannot imprison you.

4. They cannot get you off a murder charge by invoking the insanity defence.  (Neither, for that matter, can a group of people seriously maligned and despised by the tedious, whining Doctor Dull Rumple: criminologists. And neither can theoretical neurologists.)

Big Pharma may be to blame for lots of seriously undesirable stuff but is the psychiatrist who is the essential intermediary.  Psychiatrists are probably the most powerful “doctors” in the medical profession.  They have an unjustified hegemony over the other medical specialisms and are (rightly) resented for this.

Isn’t psychiatry a strange specialism to choose if you disapprove of this sort of thing:

I have seen brilliant lawyers poring over the DSM, as it is called, to decide whether the accused or the plaintiff really does or does not have a diagnosis according to its sacred pages. If he does have such a diagnosis he is innocent; if not, he is guilty.

But who made these diagnoses?  Lawyers, however brilliant, are not qualified to make psychiatric diagnoses.

A friend of mine (who happens to be the son of a top surgeon) said that at the ‘lower end’ of the medical profession there are a lot of doctors who didn’t have much of a choice about which specialism they went into. They were too dim to do anything else so they seriously resent their patients. And revenge, even for imagined slights, is a dish best served cold. For the likes of Doctor Dull Rumple it is a dish best served cold, then consumed, then regurgitated, then consumed, then regurgitated.  Ad infinitum.
